Detailed
Description
Regulations, in a clever format, of the Hoofd Synagoge in Amsterdam. The full title is Reglement op de מצות op de Nederlandisch Israelitische Hoofd Synagoge te Amsterdam. The regulations, comprised of seventeen articles, are entirely in Dutch, with the exception of the word Mitzvot, which appears in all but three articles in Hebrew. For example, the first, and shortest article, states Het veilen der מצות binnen afgeschaft, that is, the auctioning of mitzvoth is abolished. After the regulation is a table of the mitzvoth. Arranged in five columns, reading from left to right, the first column gives the occasion, that is, the festival of activity on Shabbat and the second column gives the mitzvah involved, such as removing the first Torah scroll and replacing it in the Aron, the same for the second, hagbah, Ez Hayyim, etc. These two columns are in Hebrew. The four remaining columns are headed by the names of Amsterdam synagogues, Voor de Groote Synagog, Voor de Nieuwe Synagog, etc. Below are figures for the honors. The booklet is issued over the names of S. J. Cohen Lob, Voorzitter of the Het Kerkbestuur der Nederl. Israel Hoofdsynagoge alhier (president of the governing board of the synagogue) and M. L. van Ameringen, de Secretaris.
