Detailed
Description
R. Hayyim Abraham Israel b. Moses (d. 1785), Italian rabbi of the eighteenth century; was born in Jerusalem or Rhodes and lived at Candia and Ancona. He wrote: (1) "Bet Abraham" (Leghorn, 1786, 307 ff.), a casuistical commentary on the Tur Hoshen Mishpat and on the "Bet Yosef" thereto (at the end of the volume is a treatise entitled "Ma'amar ha-Melek," on the laws of government), the work carries the approbation of the Hida, R. Hayyim Joseph David Azulai among others; (2) "Amarot Tehorot" (Leghorn, 1787, 309 ff.), a similar commentary on the Tur Even ha-Ezer. R. Israel is also quoted by R. Mattithiah Terni in his "Sefat Emet" (p. 73b, ed. Leghorn). R Israel's scholarship and piety are evident from his extensive works.
