Detailed
Description
Rare first complete edition of these homilies on Bereshit and Shemot by R. Asher Zelig ben Jacob Zevi Schwartz. Beit Asher has two title pages, the first, briefly stating the name and subject of the book within a pillared frame, the title in red ink, followed, on the verso, by verse in two columns in which the initial letters of both columns is an acrostic of the author’s name. The second, more detailed title page, describes Beit Asher, beginning “I have surely built a house” (I Kings 8:13) and continuing describing it as buds and flowers of peshat (literal meanings) and remez (allusions) via discourses. The verso of this title page has the names of the financiers who assisted in publication, followed by R. Schwartz’s introduction and then the text, all in two columns. At the end are R. Schwartz’s commentary on Megillat Esther, and a second individuals whose assistance made publication possible, and errata. The first edition of Beit Asher (Kleinwardein, 1927) was, as described by the Jewish National and University Library as consisting of 86 ff.
