Detailed
Description
First edition of this Hebrew grammar in Latin by the Jesuit Edwardo Slaughter (1655-1729). The title page describes it as Brevi & nova methodo concinnata qua Cito, facile, folide, Linguae Sanctae. It informs that the author was a Jesuit and Olim Linguae Sanctae, nunc Sacrae Theologiae Professore. There is an introduction, an approbation from Henricus Humberston of the faculty and the text. It begins with the letters of the alphabet and proceeds to explain each letter in detail, moving on to more complex aspects of the language. The text includes full page tables of conjugations and there are numerous exercises. Grammatica hebraica was a particularly popular introductory Hebrew grammar being reprinted several times until late in the nineteenth century. It should not be confused with another Latin-Dutch grammar by Evardus van der Hooght with a like title printed in 1686.
