Detailed Description |
|
Responsa by R. Judah Leib b. Meir Abraham Aba Gordin (1853-1925), Chief Rabbi of Chicago. Rabbi Gordin was born in Rezhitsa, Russia and apparently educated by his father. In his youth he was already know as an illu and corresponded with Torah greats in Lithuania. He served in several prestigious communities, including Lomza, before coming to Chicago where he remained until his passing. He is the author of several scholarly works and was instrumental in many community activities for the preservation of Judaism among immigrants. He founded a yeshiva day school in Chicago, was a key player in the kashrut battles of Chicago, and an active member of the period national rabbinical organizations. |
