Detailed
Description
Attractive illustrated publication put out by the United States Army for Jewish personnel serving in Southern Bavaria by Chaplain Seymour E. Rockoff and PFC Robert C. Hamaoui Jewish Chaplain’s Assistant. Entirely in English, excepting for a Hebrew title, the cover has a picture of a Passover plate and states “tune in !!! AFn for a special Passover broadcast on Tuesday, 1 April at 1215 hours.” The first page has a Passover message to all Jewish personnel and their Sued Bayern from W. D. Vaughan, Colonel, Inf. Commanding, followed by the Comanding General’s Easter and Passover message, by Major General, USA commanding; and a from office of the Jewish Chaplain. The text begins with the Passover story with side illustrations reflecting the Jewish experience in Egypt. There is a discussion of Matzahm beginning with the three types of Matzah, tha basking of matzah, a description of symbols and customs of Pesach with black and white illustrations. There is a discussion of Shabbos haGadol, fast of the firstborn, and Chol Hamoed, eruv Tavshilin, and Sefirat haomer. After this material is a section on preparing the home for Passover, Badikath Hametz, answers to Purim questions, a ten item description on the traditional way to make a seder with an illustration of the seder table and markers pointing from each of the ten items to a corresponding object on the table. Next is an illustrated order of the Passover Seder, a thirteen item order of the service with Hebrew headings, seder ritual of remembrance referencing Soviet Jewry, a page with reproductions of pages from older haggadot and several pages of additional Pesah material. A particularly nice Passover handout reflecting well on how the U. S. Army takes care of its Jewish personnel.
