Detailed
Description
Twenty-five postcards primarily depicting headstones in the Jewish cemetery in Prague. The booklet has no text but is accompanied by a small booklet describing each of the cards in German. The first three cards are of das Rathaus (city hall); die Alteneuusynagogue: innere Ansicht, a view of the interior of what was the premier synagogue of the Jewish community from the time of Kaiser Karl IV in 1357; and die Alteneuusynagogue: ausere Ansicht, the outside of that synagogue. The remaining nineteen cards are of the headstones of illustrious rabbis who served in and/or are buried in Prague. Among them (as given in the descriptive booklet) are R. Efraimn Lenczic, Sohn Arons (d. 1619); David Gans, Sohn Salomons (d. 1613); Israel Howitz, Sohn Isaias (d. 1568); Abraham, Sohn Jakobs (d. 1476), als Martyr seiner Religion; several tombstones, including one of R. Sabbathai, Sohn des Isaias Horowitz (Shela, d. 1585). The headstones are varied in appearance, a few elaborate, others faded, all or interest.
