A book of Yiddish songs, complete with lyrics in Yiddish and in transliteration, as well as with musical notes. The book is divided in two two parts, though the pagination is continuous. The songs in this volume include: Hatikva, Shoshanas Yaakov, Chad Gadyo and others, including a number of Yiddish folksongs.
Henry Lefkowitch (1892-1959) was the owner-editor of Metro music [which in its day was the largest publisher of Jewish music worldwide] and was deeply devoted to Yiddish music. He was the editor and compiler of many volumes of music, including: Russian songs : collection of most popular Russian folk songs, love songs and gypsy romances (New York, 1936), Jewish folk songs;
folk and modern arrangement for voice and piano, (New York, 1935), Nishmas Eliyohu : cantorial recitatives for the High Holidays (New York, 1949) and many others.
