Description		    Only edition of these responsa on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh by R. Asher Anshel ben Mordecai Ashkenazi. The title page describes Shemen Rosh as including pilpul, discourses and eulogies. There are approbations from R. Isaac Shemekish and R. Shalom Mordedai ha-Kohen Schwadron, an introduction from the author , and then the text, in two columns in rabbinic type. On the last page, as an addendum to Shemen Rosh, is the will and testament of R. Moses David Ashkenazi, R. Asher Anshel’s grandfather.

R. Asher Anshel ben Mordecai Ashkenazi (1833-1901) was a grandson of the renowned R. Moses David Ashkenazi (c. 1780–1856) who was born in Galicia where his father Asher served as rabbi. From 1803 to 1843 R. Moses David Ashkenazi held the office of rabbi at Tolcsva, Hungary. Thereafter he settled in Ereẓ Israel where he became a rabbi of the Ashkenazi community in Safed, a position he held until his death. The following works of his have been published: (1) Toledot Adam, novellae to several talmudic tractates (Jerusalem, 1845); (2) Be'er Sheva, a collection of homiletical discussions of the Pentateuch (1853).
