Regulations issued under the imprimatur of the French Republic, including an article dealing with Jewish marriage. These regulations, among the very first issued, varied from later issues which are under the restored monarchy. It is comprised of regulations no. 1580 through 1601. Article no. 1597 is comprised of two paragraphs, Art. I and II, issued under the name of Napoleon Bonapart, par le premier Consule. The first clause states:
Les rabbins ne pouront donner Ia bénédiction nuptials qu’á ceux qui justifieront, en bonne et due forme, avoir contracté marriage devant l’officier civil.
