Detailed
Description
   R. Ephraim Eliezer b. Sholom Yolles (1891-1988), Admor of Sambor and Chief Rabbi of Philadelphia. R. Yolles was an erudite scholar and prolific writer of responsa. He authored several volumes of responsa and novellae and was a regular contributor to period rabbinic periodicals. While maintaining the Toras HaNigleh v’haNistar of his parents and teachers, he did not establish a Hasidic court in America. For much of his life, he was the Chief Rabbi of Philadelphia and chaired major rabbinic organizations.

He maintained a close relationship with R. Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth Lubavitch Rebbe. After his passing, R. Yolles was instrumental in R. Menachem Mendal accepting the leadership of Habad, and remained very close to him for the rest of his life.
