Description		    Discourses on Matan Torah (the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai) by R. Ezekiel ben Isaac Kindles. The title page describes Mareh Yehezkel Katan as “A few sayings, to understand and to discern, for the good of the generations, to honor them by bringing to light “precious stones” (I Kings 5:31, 7:10, 11), niglah and nistar (revealed and esoteric Torah), selected from his large work Mareh Yehezkel in which he wrote novellae on the Torah from Bereshit through “the eyes of all Israel” (Deuteronomy 30:12). On trhe verso of the title page is a preface from R. Abraham Judah ha-Kohen Schwartz who brought the book to press and a preface by R. [Issachar] Behr Eybeschuetz Perlhefter who assisted with publication of the first edition (Prague, 1695) of Mareh Yehezkel Katan. R. Kindles, in his introduction, describes the many hardships he has undergone, beginning with a plague in Nahud where he had been rabbi for many years. Pursued by creditors and experiencing other troubles, Kindles’ book remained, for lack of resources, in the corner, unpublished for fourteen years. It was important that it be published, for it is a covering for Kindles’ soul and without it he would be embarrassed before God. Kindles has therefore prepared this abbreviated extract on the giving of the Torah. The larger work has not been published. This is Kindles’ only published work.
