Letter by R. Tobias Judah b. Alexander Zevi Tavyomi (Guttendag; 1882-1953). He was born in Rypin, Poland and educated in its yeshivot and served as rabbi of Sokhchin before emigrating to Erez Israel in 1936. An erudite scholar he wrote: Tal le-Yisrael (Piotrkow 1925) homiletics and responsa; Zeit Motiven (Warsaw 1930) in Yiddish; Shvu'ot (Warsaw 1930) in Yiddish; Ateret Tovis (Piotrkow 1932) novellae to the Rambam; Maaseh Tovia (Bilgoraj 1934) homilies in Yiddish; Erez Tovah (Jerusalem 1947) responsa; Yikre deHaya (Jerusalem 1947) eulogies; Evel Kavod (Jerusalem 1949) eulogy; Tal Orot, 3 volumes (Jerusalem - Tel Aviv 1948-53) talmudical novellae with contemporary issues; Imre Tal (Tel Aviv 1954) novellae and homiletics. |
