Description		    Historic letter by R. Mordecai Gimpel b. Dov Ber Jaffe (1838-1892), rabbi of Dereczyn (suburb of Grodna) followed by Ruzyany. He was born in Utena, Lithuania and educated in the yeshiva of R. Isaac of Volozhin. Among his classmates were R. Samuel Salant, R. Samuel Mohilev, and the Neziv. An erudite scholar he authored several volumes among them: Elef haMagen (Warsaw 1912) novellae to Talmud, Zikhronot Mordecai (Warsaw 1913) eulogy, and others. He immigrated to Erez Israel in 1888 where he passed on.
