Letter by R. Abraham Joshua b. Isaac Meir Heschel (1888-1967), Admor of Kopyczynice/New York. His mother was the daughter of R. Mordecai Feivish Friedman of Husyatin. In Elul1909 he married his cousin Sarah Berachah, the daughter of R. Moses Mordecai Heschel of Medziborz. After his marriage he stayed with his father-in-law for a time and then returned to Kopyczynice.
During the First World War, he, together with many of his relatives, lived in Vienna, where on Rosh Hashanah 1936, he succeeded his father as rebbe in Vienna. He established an orphanage in Baden, near Vienna. At the Nazi Anschluss, he was imprisoned and in 1939 emigrated to the United States, where he established his synagogue Bet Avraham on the East Side of New York; in 1965 he moved to Borough Park.
On one of his frequent visits to the Holy Land, he established an orphanage in Petah Tikvah. He helped financially the Hinukh Atzmai and other Torah institutions in Israel and in the United States. He died in Monsey, New York, but was interred in Tiberius.
