Detailed
Description
Monumental work, comprised of two thousand entries, on the subject of the halakhah concerning situations involving a mumar by R. Hillel ben Elijah Possek. A mumar, literally, "one who changes" or "converts", refers to an apostate, i.e., to one who converts, but in the talmudic tradition it sometimes means heretic, especially when it is used to refer to one who rejects only one commandment of the Torah (Hor. 11a). While the apikoros seems to be led to his heresy by intellectual uncertainty, the mumar seems to be brought to it by his appetites or emotional unbalance. R. Posek (1880-1935), who had been the rav of Ziltofel and Tatrobener, made aliyah in 1935. He was also the author of Bet Hillel, Divrei Hillel, and Hillel Omer. In Kobetz Nidahim R. Possek addresses numerous halakhic issues that arise when a mumar is concerned. For example, if a woman’s husband dies leaving her pregnant and the child dies within thirty days and the yabum is a mumar; if a woman is raped by a mumar and she gives birth to a daughter; if a woman’s husband is a mumar and the yabum is kosher; a questionable mumeret who married a Kohen; a mumeret whom the rabbis forbade to her husband and she returns to Judaism if she is permitted to marry. All of the issues in this work are based on great scholarship in the works of rsihonim and aharonim.
