Rev. Lyon studied at the University of Prague and came to England at the latter part of the 18th century. He established the first Jewish boarding school in England and became a registered tutor at the University of Cambridge. He taught Hebrew to several persons of social distinction, among them the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of Wellington and many others. His daughter, Miss Emma Lyon, was a distinguished poetess.
