Detailed
Description
Comprehensive recording with musical notations of Liturgic songs consisting of Hebrew, English, and German Psalms and Hymns, systematically arranged for the Jewish rite with organ accompaniment. Volume one has a preface in two columns in facing English and German in which the editors write inform that “Traditional melodies as well as compositions of our best composers, which in their estimation deserve a permanent place in our services, they have in part retained in their original forms – in part coupled with texts suitable to modern progressive views. They have selected the best English metrical versions of the various Hymns that are published in the course of the work; and though naturally precluded from speaking critically of their own compositions, they may nevertheless mention that the latter have received many encomiums from acknowledged authorities in musical matters.” The text follows immediately after, comprised of the musical bars and accompanying verse, primarily in transliterated Hebrew but also in occasional English. The first volume consists of Sabbath Evening and Morning Services, Psalms and Hymns. Volume two consists of Services, Psalms, and hymns for the three festivals, Thanksgiving, Purim, and Hanukkah, Psalms 93, 24, Zur Todtenfeier, Pslam 29, tunes for Sabbath schools, and two hymns for confirmands by S. Welsch. Volume three repeats the contents of volume two but is prayers and hymns for the New Year.
