Description		    Only edition of this bi-lingual Hebrew-English polemical response to non-believers by Hart (Zevi Hirsch ben Shimon) Symmonds (Simonds) from Lesly in Prussia. There are two title pages, the first English the second Hebrew, stating that it is The Arguments of Faith or Incontrovertible Answers to Sophists and Epicureans. It informs that the author is publishing this work “in the zeal of his faith, the faith of Israel, for those who seek the paths of rectitude, of truth, and of eternal life. . . .” The Hebrew title page is followed by the author’s preface, introduction, and then the text, all in facing Hebrew and English pages. The preface begins “Incompetent as I am to offer a Work to the notice of my Brethern, conscious that I shall subject myself to a disadvantageous comparison with many wise and eminent authors, yet when I behold the works of folly produced in thios sublunary world by those who not only profane God, forsake his laws and cast away from them his holy commandments. . . .” Symmonds notes that he has written the work in two parts, each divided into six sections, according to the tribes f Israel. The book is intended as an answer to sophists. This volume is part one. It appears that part two was not published.
