Description
The subtitle of this volume is "Statements by members of the American War Congress on the Jewish National Movement". As the introductory note states, following the Balfour Declaration made on behalf of the British Government in 1917, "the Zionist Organization of America, in order to ascertain the sentiment of the members of the Legislature towards the British Declaration particularly, and towards the Zionist movement in general, and to inform itself of what action, executive or legislative the War-Congress would be inclined to recommend or approve, sent [a letter]to each member of both Houses on June 11, 1918." This volume contains the responses to that letter from members of Congress, as well as letters from other nations in a section entitled "Government indorsements of Jewish National Aspirations and of the British Declaration." Eight governmental responses are printed from such countries as Greece, Holland, China, Siam and Japan as well as Serbia, France and Italy.
