Hasidic work on the Pentateuch and holidays by his father, R. Hananiah Yom-Tob Lipa b. Jekuthiel Judah Teitelbaum (1836-1904) Admor and rav of Sighet. He studied in his father's yeshivah and together with his father visited many hasidic rabbis especially R. Hayyim Halberstam. His first marriage, to the daughter of Manasseh Rubin of Ropczyce, remained childless. In 1878, after obtaining a Heter Meah Rabbanim, he married his cousin Hannah, the daughter of R. Yoel Ashkenazi of Zloczov.
At the age of twenty-eight he became rabbi of Tecszo, where he remained until 1883, when he succeeded his father in Sighet. He was a fiery speaker a fearless fighter for the maintenance of Hungarian Orthodoxy. The Sighet Kehillah joined the Landeskanzlei, and "Rab Lipele," as he was known, took an active part in the deliberations of the organization. He convened a rabbinical convention of rabbis, at which he was elected president.
He was known by the name of his Kedushat Yom Tov, a two-part homiletical commentary of the Pentateuch, printed in Marmaros Sighet (1905) and reprinted by his nephnew in Brooklyn in 1947. |
