Detailed
Description
Bi-lingual Hebrew-Yiddish regulations of the Havarut Hesed ve-Emet, a gemilut hesed society in Safed. The text, in facing Hebrew and Yiddish pages, begins that every being on heaven and earth has upon them the service and responsibility of hesed and emet. After developing this theme the regulations of the society begin, starting with the name of the society, its location, and statement of purpose, noting that all members must act in unity, with love, brotherhood, and peace, none doing none doing anything harmful tro another. All members must be concerned with poor workers, who may lack, among other things, the implements of their trade. It emphasizes that all members are required to employ the local poor and those willing to learn a craft, educating them without recompense. Next are statutes of the society, membership, conduct, meetings of the society, each with numerous numbered paragraphs. At the end is a list of members, certifications in French, English, and Hebrew, among the signatories being the French, British, and American consuls, and a call to all those who would pursue righteousness.
