Only edition of these discourses by R. Zevi Aryeh ben Mordecai Joseph Twersky of Zlatopol, a scion of the Chernobyl Hasidic dynasty. There is a brief preface, in which R. Twersky states that the purpose of this book is ot explain a person’s purpose in life, what is truth, what is good, that which is concealed within a person, the understanding that he is an individual and with this he also loves kindess and truth. He does not, however, know how to make an accounting or give proper consideration to these matters. The books purpose is clear, to bring out ocel min ha-posels, that is the grain from the chaff and good from evil. The text consists of eight discourses.
R. Zevi Aryeh ben Mordecai Joseph Twersky of Zlatopol (1890-1968), known as R. Zevi or R. Herschele, studied under his father. He married Havah, daughter of R. Israel Friedman of Chortkov. At the beginning of World War I he relcoated to Vienna, becoming Rebbe there. During World War II R. Twersky was interned in Dachau and, upon his release in 1938 settled in Tel Aviv. In addition to Ha-Tov ve-ha-Takhlit R. Twersky wrote Emunah ve-Da’at (Vienna, 1933). In both works shows an interest in philosophy and ascribes to Hasidus a significant place in mystical speculations.
