Description		    Volume 4 (of 8) of biographical lexicon by R. Abraham ben Isaac Judah Leib Aryeh Stern (1844-1944). Melitzei Esh is, as noted on the title page, about the lives and events of the sages of Israel, arranged according to the calendar, each and every gaon according to their jahrzeit. It describes R. Stern as author of Gabi Esh, six parts on Mishnah; kuntres Kitvei Esh, three parts on responsa and pilpul; Kovod Shamayim on the Torah; and Melitzei Esh, noting three previous volumes. This volume is on the months of M. Av through Elul. The entire work, not completed until 1938, consists of eight volumes. Melitzei Esh received, not printed here, an unusually large number of approbations. This volumen begins with an introduction by R. Stern and then the text in a single column in square letters. An example of the detail, breadth, and comprehensiveness of the entries is suggested by the first entry, suggestive of the breadth of the work, begins with Aaron, Kohen Gadol and his son Eleazer, brief entries on R. Joseph ben Jehiel av bet din Levov and R. Samuel Meir Perl of Zeborov, followed by a lenghty entry on R. Naphtali Zevi Judah Berlin (Neziv).
