Detailed
Description
Only edition of this kabbalisitc commentary on Bereshit by the admor R. Eliezer Zevi ben Isaac Eisik Judah Jehiel Safrin (1830-98). The title page informs that Ben Beiti is based on the teachings of R. Isaac Luria (ha-Ari) and R. Israel ba’al Shem Tov and his students. The author, R. Eliezer Zevi ben Isaac Eisik Judah Jehiel Safrin, was the only son of R. Isaac Eisik Judah Jehiel of Komarno. R. Eliezer Zevi, who was born in Zydaczov, was stricken with paralysis in childhood. He studeied under R. Judah Zevi of Belz, visited R. Shalom of Belz, R. Meir of Przremyshlan, and R. Horowitz of Dziikov. R. Eliezer Zevi married Hannah Sarah, the daughter of R. Joseph Shine. In 1874, R. Eliezer Zevi succeeded his father as rebbe. He stressed that his worshipers should dress cleanly and in fine garments, it not being respectable to pray before the King of Kings in torn raiment. Also, R. Eliezer Zevi stressed that the Zohar be studied prior to each service and Talmud and Mishnah after each service. A prolific author, his works, in addition to Ben Beiti, include Or Einayim, an Encyclopedia on Kabbalah (Przemysl, 1900); a commentary on Psalms (Ungvar, 1927); Damesek Eliezer (1902-1928), a seven volume commentary on the Zohar; Megillat Setarim (Jerusaelm, 1965); and Zekan Beito (Jerusalem, 1970) on Pirkei Avot. R. Eliezer Zevi had four sons, including R. Jacob Moses of Komarno, who succeeded him, as well as two daughters.
