Description		    First edition of this super commentary on the Rambam’s Mishneh Torah and its commentators by R. Rafael Joseph ben Judah ibn Rabi. The title page, dated with the verse, “”You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion” (Psalms 102:14), is followed by the approbation of R. Yom Tov Algazi, the author’s introduction, all but the first of its eleven paragraphs beginning with Derekh Melekh and concluding with ha-Melek. The text, in two columns in rabbinic letters, is comprised of novellae and pilpul on numerous halakhot in the Mishneh Torah. More than half of the volume, however, is on hilkhot Nedarim, R. ibn Rabi addressing in detail the positions of the Rambam, rishonim, and ajharonim. At the end of the volume is a second approbation from the Hida (R. Hayyim Joseph David Algazi), indexes, and errata.

R. Rafael Joseph ben Judah ibn Rabi (d. 1798)is accounted among the sages of Jerusalem of the eighteenth century. He was a member of the bet din of R. Yom Tov Algazi and his name appears among the signatories of approbations from that period. He also went, in 1782, to Europe as an emissary of Jerusalem.
