A collection of literature, stories, and biographies relating to Hasidim and their music by Meir Shimon ben Eliezer Geshuri. The title page states that it was published at the expense of one who loves Hasidic music. Below is an illustration of a harp. A table of contents lists thirty one entries, including a bibliography. Among the subjects are R. Israel, Admor of Modzhitz; zimra of Zion; the history of Hasidic tunes; Hasidic dance; Torah novellae on nigunnim; and ha-Admor ha-magan from Colov. The second part of La-Hasidim Mizmor, numbers 22-28, is on zemirot for Shabbat and includes Kabbalah and Hasidut; R. Israel Ba’al Shem Tov; and R.Pinhas of Koretz. A separate entry (29) is on music and Kabbalah. The articles are written by various individuals, but all the Shabbat articles are by Meir Geshuri. The text, in a single column in square letters. Several articles are accompanied by musical notations and there are several small portrait photographs.
Meir Shimon ben Eliezer Geshuri, (1897–1977), writer on music. Born in Myslowitz, Silesia, Geshuri went to Erez Israel in 1920. He was active in the founding of the Ha-Po'el ha-Mizrahi, but his main interest was research into Jewish music, particularly hasidic song. He was one of the founders of the Israel Institute for Sacred Music (1958). Geshuri was the author of numerous articles and published his main researches in Ha-Niggun ve-ha-Rikkud ba-Hasidut (3 vols., 1956–59). A bibliography of his writings was edited by B. M. Cohen in 1966. |
