Amador de los Rios was interested chiefly in the constitutional position of the Jews. Included in Historia Social, Política, y Religiosa de los Judíos de España y Portugal are numerous quotations from works by Sephardi authors, especially poets, essentially introducing them to the Spanish public. Although the book is not without flaws-- Amador de los Rios did not consult any Hebrew or Jewish sources, and he made many factual errors and biased interpretations in his research-- the work is still of fundamental importance.
