Description		    Only edition of this book of prayers and verses by R. Jacob ben Zevi ha-Levi Hirsch. The title, Shir ha-Ashirim (Song of the wealthy) is followed by the subtitle, the poor have no voice. The title page then states that it is a song of freedom, praise and thanksgiving on completion of R. Hirsch’s book Mor Deror, on songs for Shabbat and festivals. Praise, songs, and the voice of consolation, crowned in truth “from the peak of Amana” (Song of Songs 4:8), also parables, also nardi giving a fine fragrance, to pose riddles, hidden things. The title page continues that it was completed in the year אסתר, which is the end of all the miracles and for a remembrance for his daughter-in-law, Esther אסתר who passed away, who was the wife of his son Moses. It further informs that R. Hirschg was the author of Tiferet Yisrael, Mor Deror, and other discourses. The book begins with verse in praise of the book followed by prayers to be recited when greeting the Sabbath. Shir ha-Ashirim is comprised of prayers for Shabbat and other occasions, some but not all accompanied by German translation.
