Description		    Only edition of this two part commentary on the Shulhan Arukh Orah Hayyim al hilkhot Pesah. Derekh Hayyim is in two parts – Derekh ha-Kazar, containing novellae from the responsa of the earlier authorities, and Derekh ha-Arokh, in which he ingeniously attempted to solve the difficulties raised by R. David b. Samuel ha-Levi in his Turei Zahav and the Magen Avraham of Abraham Gombiner on the Shulh an Arukh and Maimonides' Mishneh Torah. There are approbations from R. Mordecai Benet, R. Eliezer Santov, R. Moses Sofer (Hatam Sofer), and R. Nahum Terbitsch. R. Jehiel Michael was accused, in Derekh Hayyim, of plagiarizing the Magen ha-Elef of R. Aryeh Leib Zunz (published in the Sar ha-Elef (Warsaw, 1817) of R. Jonathan Eybeschuetz which he utilizes without referencing that work, but his defenders point to his original contributions.

R. Jehiel Michael ben Abraham Meir Cifer (d. 1844) was a Polish and Hungarian rabbi. After serving as rabbi in some communities of Poland, where he was born, R. Jehiel was appointed to Cifer near Bratislava. He was also the author of Hayyei Olam (Vienna, 1830) on talmudic topics and the Shulhan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah. In the introduction to the Hayyei Olam, he mentions two other works that have not been published.
