Description		    Rabbinic dicta dealing with the virtue of those who occupy themselves with the study of Torah by R. Abraham ben Solomon Zalman Ragoler, brother of the Vilna Gaon. R. Ragoler explains in detail the precepts of Torah study, stressing that it is not sufficient "merely to study the text superficially, but it is also essential to carry it out in practice." His sources are the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmuds, Sifra, Sifre, Mekhilta, and the Zohar, all intended to increase the flame of love of Israel, to learn, teach, keep, and do. There are approbations from R. Abraham Abele ben Abraham Solomon, R. Simhah Bunim Sofer, and R. Shraga Fish Fishman and an introduction from R. Ragoler’s grandson. Appended to the volume is Elim le-Teruphah, a letter from the Vilna Gaon.

R. Abraham ben Solomon Zalman Ragoler (18th century) was a Lithuanian rabbi and preacher, brother of R. Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, Gaon of Vilna. R. Abraham was born in Vilna, but because of the controversy between Hasidim and Mitnaggedim he moved to Ragola and was thereafter called R. Abraham of Ragola or "the Hasid ("righteous one") of Ragola." He was appointed preacher in Shklov. In addition to Ma'alot ha-Torah (1828), he left in manuscript a kabbalistic commentary to the tractate Megillah and a commentary to the Book of Esther.
