Detailed
Description
Only edition of this work on the atrocities against the Jews in Pinsk and the surrounding regions during World War I by R. Abraham Asher ben Aryeh David Feinstein. The front cover has a depiction of a tombstone and within it the phrase God . . . the spilled blood of His servants. Megilat Puraniyot Is dedicated to the author’s father, Aryeh David ben Abraham Hayyim (d. 3 Tevet, 1904) and his mother, Pearl bat Israel (d. 12 Nissin, 1883). The book begins with an introduction, in which R. Feinstein informs that he has only recorded the most important occurrences that require remembrance by future generations. The text is comprised of fifty-three chapters detailing the events that befell the Jews in Pinsk and the surrounding areas during World War I. There is a collage of photographs of the Jews murdered in the aftermath of WW I, when, during the initial period of Polish rule after World War I, on April 5, 1919, the Poles executed 35 prominent Jews following a framed-up charge against them; a facsimile of a letter signed by the rabbis of Karalin Pinsk. The volume concludes with errata. Megilat Puraniyot is an unusually detailed and moving account of events not well remembered today, overshadowed by later atrocities.

R. Abraham Asher ben Aryeh David Feinstein (1870-1944) was born in Pinsk, going up to Erez Israel in 1924. He was also the author of Mai Hanukah: Agah li-yeladim (Tel Aviv, 1933).
