Detailed
Description
Discourses on faith by R. Abraham Berush ben David Flahm (1804-73). There are two title pages, the first, in Hebrew and Cyrillic, giving the date as úøìá and as 1871, the second dated with the chronogram “[and let him dip] his foot in oil áùîï øâìå (631 = 1871)” (Deuteronomy 33:24). The first title page informs that Shemen ha-Mor is comprised of three discourses, Shamayim ha-hadashim, Arubot Shamayim, and Erez ha-Hadashah, and that they are “myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices” (Song of Songs 4:14). The second, more detailed title page states that Shemen ha-Mor is on the principals of faith, the renewal of thewold and the purpose of its existence, the purpose of man and his success, on the subject of Torah from shamayim, and divine providence. There are philosophic considerations, in the manner of “how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity” (Psalms 133:1). The title page also lists the several places in which R. Flahm served as rabbi. There are approbations from ten prominent rabbis, an introduction, and then the text, in square letters as Shemen ha-Mor with glosses entitled Mor ve-Ohelot below in rabbinic letters. At the end of the volume is an index of the references.
