[1], 31, [1 foldout map 304:490 mm.] ff., 304:200 mm., wide margins, usual age, food & wine staining, many plates colored by contemporary hand. A rare, very good copy bound in the original half vellum and marbled paper over wood boards, rubbed and split with loss.

Description

Scarce 1712 second edition of the Amsterdam Haggadah ion the original binding, illustrated with engraved title page, 16 copper engravings - colored by contemporary hand, numerous woodcut initials, Don Isaac Abravanel's commentary, and engraved folding map of Israel. The plates were engraved by the righteous convert Abraham ben Yakov. Of all the early printed illustrated Passover Haggadot, the Amsterdam Haggadah had the greatest impact on subsequent editions. This Haggadah served as the model for almost all of the subsequent printed Haggadot as well as most of the hand illustrated Haggadot of subsequent dates. Indeed, many of the plates in this edition are copied to this day.

קדם שער פיתוח-נחושת. נוסח ההגדה אשכנזי וספרדי, כהגדת אמשטרדם תנ"ה. הדינים באשכנזית, באותיות צו"ר, ובלאדינו. תרגום אשכנזי באותיות צו"ר של הפיוטים "אדיר הוא", "אחד מי יודע" ו"חד גדיא". על הציורים עיין: ב' רות, ההגדה המצויירת שבדפוס, ארשת, ג, תשכ"א, עמ' 24. שמו של האמן שעשה את פיתוחי הנחושת נזכר על המפה: אברהם בר יעקב.
