Title: Die Memoiren des Ascher Levy aus Reichshofen im Elsass (1598-1635):
This volume has both a German and a Hebrew title page. The German section has 97 pages, and the Hebrew section has 44. Pages i-vii contain an index to the German translation.
Asher ben Eliezer ha-Levy was a teacher, trader and scribe from Alsace who wrote down his paternal genealogy back to his great grandfather, an exile from Spain.(source: Fame and Secrecy: Leon Modena's Life as an Early Modern Autobiography Natalie Zemon Davis History and Theory, Vol. 27, No. 4, Beiheft 27: Essays in Jewish Historiography (Dec., 1988), pp. 103-118).
His memoir was translated into German and annotated by Moses Ginsburger (1865-1949), who wrote many books about the history of Jews. Some of his works include: Die Juden in Basel (Basel, 1909), Les Juifs de Horbourg (Paris, 1904), Les Juifs de Metz sous l'ancien régime (Paris, 1905) and many others.
