The fourth edition of a collection of sayings and customs arranged according to the days of the year, gleaned from the "sichos" [talks] given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, R. Levi Yitzchok Schneerson and compiled by his son-in-law, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, R. Menachem Mendel Schneerson. The volume is part of a series called Ozar Ha Hasidim Lubavitch.
In the winter of 1942, the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Y. Schneersohn, of righteous memory, gave his son-in-law, the future Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory, the task of compiling an anthology of Chasidic aphorisms and customs arranged according to the days of the year. For each day, the calendar prescribed sections of Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya for study that day; this practice is known in Chabad-Lubavitch as Chitas (çú"ú). Each day's portion of Chumash is studied with the corresponding Rashi commentary.
Each day's entry also noted historical events that happened on that day, or Lubavitcher customs associated with that day, and/or a short inspirational thought for the day,
The calendar was entitled Hayom Yom. In describing this work Rabbi Yosef Yirzchak wrote: …"A book that is small in format…but bursting with pearls and diamonds of choicest quailty." "A splendid palace of Chasidism." True to these words, Hayom Yom has become a beloved classic work and a source of daily spiritual sustenance
