Detailed Description |
|
Blacklist of businessmen and the names of their establishments that desecrate the Sabbath by being open on the Sabbath or Holiday. Such lists were quietly generated and distributed to observant members of the community to advise them of businesses to be avoided. In halakha one who desecrated the Sabbath looses all reliability for any Jewish function. As such these persons could not be trusted for kashrut or meat products, cannot be counted for a quorum, and more such prohibitions. The lists were very effective and many times forced a businessman to become a Sabbath observer. |
