Detailed
Description
Two part appeal for essential itual needs of Jews. The first page is the call by Agudat Israel. They have received an appeal for those oppressed Jews in need of such basic items as books, tefillin, mezzuzot, siddurim, talisim large and small, humashim, and other ritual items required to fulfill spiritual requirements. Locations where these items are being collected, in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa are given. All Jews in Eretz Israel are appealed to, to respond to the needs of their brothers and to help supply their needs. This appeal is being made prior to Rosh Ha-Shanah and mention is made of the great merit in responding, with sacrifice and love. The reverse side is the appeal received from R. Solomon Bomgarten, who is with the refugees in camps in Germany. He requests hundreds of pairs of tefillin and emphasizes the need to dedicate all one’s strength to fill this pressing need. He continues, in somewhat more detail than the first part as to the pressing need and supplies numbers for what is required, noting that Rosh Ha-Shanah and Yom Kippur are near and basic ritual needs are lacking for Jews who have spent five or six years in camps. He concludes by noting that he saw one boy who had a fragment of a prayer book, acquired in exchange for his daily food, the boy fasting in order to obtain it.
