Description		    R. Hananiah Yom Tov Lipa Deutsch (1908-1990), Helmetzer rebbe, son of R. Samuel Aaron Deu­tsch of Keresztur, he studied under R. David Dov Meisels of Ujhely, R. Hayyim Mor­decai Jacob of Miskolc, and R. Joseph Tzvi Duschinsky of Huszt. He married the daugh­ter of R. Joseph Abeles of Shalui. He became the rabbi of Dabshina, and after World War II settled in Cleveland, Ohio, and then moved to Williamsburg, where he estab­lished a Bet HaMidrash. He had a keen inter­est in mikvaot, maintaining that the cause of the Holocaust had been the neglect and laxity of the strict observance of family purity. He devoted his energies to the establishment of mikvaot and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and South America for this purpose. He also visited Europe and Israel, setting up a kollel taharat yom tov in Jerusa­lem for the study of the Laws of Family Purity. He built and or repaired over 1,000 mikva'ot during his lifetime.

His magnum opus is Taharat Yom Tov, in ten volumes (Brooklyn, New York, 1948 and 1963-1971), dealing with family purity. He published Yesod Yosef, by R. Joseph ben Sol­omon HaDarshan of Posen, an ethical trea­tise on sexual purity, with his own com­mentary, and a commentary on the Mishnah, Zera Yitzhak, by R. Isaac Chajes (Brooklyn, New York, 1960), with the genealogical de­tails of the author.
