Description		    Only edition of these two independent works printed and bound together, both by R. Asher Anshel ben Moses Baer, a Talmudist who lived in the second half of the eighteenth century.. The first title, Hiddat Shimshon (Samson's Riddle), is an ethical work work described as being on the three pillars of the world (Torah, avodah (Divine service), gemilut hasadim (loving kindness) (Avot 1:2)) and afterwards “After him he leaves a shining wake” (Job 41:24) of life. It promises the taste of “pleasant words like a honeycomb” (cf. Proverbs 16:24). It is dated “’He is to me like a bear lying in wait’ (Lamentations 3:10) in the forest (baer).” The text begins with the three pillars and then continues with additional ethical teachings. The second work, with its own title page and foliation, is Ben Emunim. It is discourses on Tanakh. This title page has a decorative frame and device. R. Asher Anshel’s introduction is followed by the text, beginning with Bereshit and concluding with Zephaniah.
