Description |

Profusely and originally illustrated Haggadah issued for Jewish soldiers in Italy. Reference is made to the Holocaust but the actual text is traditional, except beginning with Kiddush, except that parts of the traditional text are lacking and additions have been made to the Haggadah. The Haggadah employs several highly varied typefaces and layouts resulting in an unusual and interesting, albeit different Haggadah. As remarkable as the layout and appearance of the text is, the illustrations are even more varied and atypical. Near the beginning of the Haggadah is a landscape showing fields and factories, on the facing page are grapes, broken chains and a shield with a Magen David. There is a traditional depiction of an Egyptian overseer beating a Jew next to Avadim hayeni but on the following page referring to the four sons are four cartoon like figures depicting the sons and the typeface has changed from square vocalize type to script. Another depiction has a science fiction appearance and accompanying block letters. The variation in the style and themes of the pictures results in a highly unusual Haggadah, further enhanced by variances in the text. This Haggadah does not appear in Yudlov’s Ozer Ha-Haggadot.
