Detailed
Description
Rare ethical work on improving a person’s character traits by R. Solomon ben Aaron Joseph ha-Levi Fainzilberio (1869-1941; Feinzilber). This book is further distinguished by being one of if not the first work to be printed in Kedainiai, Lita. The title page describes Ha-Shlamot ha-Middot as being intended to arouse the heart to continue and delve into laws ethical relationship between a person and his Maker and also between a persona and his fellow, which are “founded in the holy mountains” (cf. Psalms 87:1), in numerous positive commandments and in many negative commandments, dependent on the heart and explained in the Torah. Many of the details on these subjects are explained in this work. On the verso of the title page is the table of contents, listing the ten chapters comprising Ha-Shlamot ha-Middot. Among the contents are an explanation that all the mitzvot are dependent upon the heart immersed in the Lord; that the yetzer causes a person to err, for that person has all the necessary good qualities and the fulfillment of the mitzvot is dependent upon the heart; an explanation of the mitzvah “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18) with many details of that mitzvah; an explanation of the mitzvah of “the fear of the Lord” (var. cit.), and many more. There is an introduction by R. Fainzilberio and then the text in a single column in square letters.

R. Fainzilberio was also the author of Yeri‘ot Shelomoh (Kedainiai, 1933), a commentary on Maimonides’ Sefer ha-Avodah and Sefer ha-Korbanot in the Mishneh Torah and Kuntress Nishmat Hayyim (1908), on Jewish medical laws.
