Description
   Only edition of this work on Jews, Arabs, and their relationship to Eretz Israel by Reuben Gafni (Weinshenker). The title page has the verse “Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, [and those who return to her] with righteousness” (Isaiah 1:27). There are two prefaces, the first from R. Abraham Isaac ha-Kohen Kook, first chief rabbi of Eretz Israel, and the second from Professor Norman Bentvitash. Next is the author’s introduction, beginning with the verse “For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes forth like radiance, and her salvation like a burning torch” (Isaiah 62:1). Ha-Historit-ha-Mishpatit is a defense of and justification of the Zionist movement and the Jewish return to their land. The text is comprised of eight chapters, each with three to seven sub-sections. Among the chapters are 1) History of the states of Eretz Israel, with a) a summary, b) the land prior to the conquest, and c) conquest of the land by the people and the period of their rule over it; 2) Jews and their historical ties with Eretz Israel, consisting of a) summary, b) the spiritual foundation to the history of the Jewish people to Eretz Israel, c) period of the Jews in the land and the reasons of its importance to the generations, d) Jewish settlement in the Roman-Byzantine period, e) Jewish settlement in the Arab period, and f) Jewish settlement in the Egyptian-Turkish period; 3) Arabs and their connection to the Philistines with three sections; 4) Jews and Eretz Israel in the eyes of the nations, three sections; 5) rights of the nations to Eretz Israel, two sections; etc.
