Description
Sermons for the High Holidays and other festivals delivered in various synagogues and study houses by R. Zevi Hirsch b. Solomon Zalman Dachowitz (1887-1953), rabbi and preacher. He was born in Sokoly, Poland, and studied in the yeshivot of Radun, Slutsk, Krynki and Volozhin and was ordained by R. Isser Zalman Meltzer, R. Raphael Shapira, R. Abba Jacob Hacohen Borochov and R. Moses Luria. R. Dachowitz served as a rabbi in the suburbs of Vilna from 1907 to 1922, when he immigrated to America. Settling in Brownsville, he assumed the pulpit of Cong. Agudath Achim Anshei Libowitz [Lubavichi?]. R. Dachowitz was a director of Ezrat Torah, a vice president of Agudath Harabbonim and a member of the executive committee of the Vaad Harabbonim of New York. An erudite scholar his responsa and novella appeared in period periodicals. A commentary to the Pentateuch was published in 1929.
