Detailed
Description
Bi-lingual Hebrew-English compilation of the halakhot pertaining to women compiled from the Hayye Adam of R. Abraham ben Jehiel Michal Danzig (1748-1820) and the Kizzur Shulhan Arukh of R. Solomon ben Joseph Ganzfried (1804-1886) translated by R. Joel (Gerald) Friedlander. The title page informs that this is part IV of the Laws and customs of Israel, compiled from the codes. The text begins the various laws regarding marriage in English, followed by the laws of Kiddushin and marriage in Hebrew. From pages 407-08 until the end the text is, in facing pages, in Hebrew and English. The subject matter covered by The Duties of Women consists of; concerning the groom and bride fasting on the wedding day; concerning the seven days of banqueting; chastity in the conduct of man and wife; the duty of a husband to his wife; the duties of a wife to her husband; laws forbidding being alone with or familiarity towards women; laws concerning menstruation; laws concerning separation immediately preceding the menstrual terms . . .; and related subjects. This is a thorough overview of the subject matter in a clear and lucid style.
