Volume 2 of 5 only, [6], 220 ff., 170:105 mm., nice margins, light damp and age staining, old hands, stamps, pin size worming, ff. 85-86 with burnhole affecting letters. A good copy bound in contemporary leather over boards, rubbed.

The Yeshivat Hakhmei Lublin copy with its stamps, plate and inscriptions. One of R. Meir Shapira's achievements was the establishment of Yeshivat Hakhmei Lublin. He first conceived of the idea of this yeshiva in 1922, and two years later, after a highly strenuous fund-raising tour of Europe and North America, laid the foundation stone in the presence of leading Jewish rabbis and dignitaries. This institution was unique in conception, character, and even architecture. R. Shapira was vigorously opposed to the poor amenities, unattractive surroundings, and penurious atmosphere characteristic of the traditional yeshivot. He set a precedent, now universally followed, by equipping his establishment at Lublin with an excellent library (much of it his own), with spacious living and dining quarters, and with appropriate lecture halls. The academic standards themselves were maintained by a rigorous selection of applicants, including a growing number of hasidic youth. Shapira frequently lectured to the students and participated in their daily studies, activities, and even meals.

Description

R. Hayyim Vital, the foremost of the disciples of the Ari z”l, advocated textual study as a means to mystical contemplation. Thus, this work, intended for study each morning, is a compendium of the Parasha of the week with parts of the prophets and various Mishnayot, sections of Talmud, halakhot for each day of the year, and Kabbalistic literature.

לכל חלק שני שערים. השער השני מפורט. בראש כל חלק רשיון הצנזורה מיום 21 באפריל 1788, בחתימתו של הרץ הומברג. מעבר לשערים: התנצלות המביא לבית הדפוס; התנצלות המגיהים; פתיחה, שאיננה אלא "הקדמת המדפיסים" שבהוצאת קארעץ תקמ"ה, בשינויים מעטים: "פה ק"ק לבוב ... ועל הברייתות והאגדות הצגנו הפי' שהיה בספר שהיה לפנינו [מצרים ת"ק] כלי שום שינוי, כי הוא דבר שא"א להדפיס כל פי' רש"י שעל הגמרות". בסיום הפתיחה נאמר: "לא הטרחנו גאוני זמנינו לשניות מדברי סופרים" כלומר: לא ביקשנו הסכמות חדשות להוצאה זו. למעשה, הדפיסו הסכמות חדשות. עיין להלן. בראש כל חלק נוסף: סדר קריאת הפסוקים שנים מקרא ואחד תרגום. על-פי קארעץ תקמ"ה. פירוש רש"י לנביאים וכתובים נשמט. פירוש רש"י לגמרא קוצר. חלק א: בראשית.
