Description		    Only edition of these responsa and halakhic novellae on Shulhan Arukh Orah Hayyim and Yoreh De’ah by R. Jacob Hai ben Baruch Zrehen. The text of the title page, in poetic prose, informs that the responsa in Bikurei Ya’akov are lengthy, dealing with concepts and pilpul, to swim in the sea of understanding, a garden of delights, depths enwrapped in blossoms, roses and lilies scattering spreading a fragrant scent. The verso of the title page has a kabbalistic depiction of a seven branched menorah above an illustration of Jerusalem, at the sides are crowned luhot and below a Magen David aand at the sides a laver and an altar. There are approbations from R. Jacob Meir; the bet din of the Sephardim in Jerusalem, consisting of R. Jacob Shimon of Atalon, R. Isaac Sarim, R. and Gabriel Shabbtai; R. Aaron Bekhor Alhdif; and R. Jacob David Ridbaz; and R. Jehiel Michael Heilperin. There is an introduction from R. Zrehen and then the text in two columns in rabbinic type. Bikurei Ya’akov is comprised of twenty-three responsa, fourteen on Orah Hayyim, nine on Yoreh De’ah. At the end of the volume is a detailed index of the responsa.

R. Jacob Hai b. Baruch Zrehen (1869-1953) chief rabbi of Tiberius, was born and passed on in Tiberius. A erudite rabbinical scholar, he is the author of several scholarly works: Helek Yaakov (Jerusalem 1902) homiletics; Bikhurei Yaakov (Jerusalem 1906) novellae to the Shulhan Arukh Orah Hayyim and Yore Deah; Shuprah deYaakov (Jerusalem 1912) commentary with kabbalistic insights to the Pentateuch; Ohel Yaakov (Jerusalem 1931) commentary with kabbalistic insights to the Pentateuch. All works carry the approbations of Erez Israel's most notable Sephardic and Ashkenazi rabbis. He served as Chief Rabbi of the Sephardim in Tiberius for many years.
