First edition of the monthly Torah periodical Sha’arei Orah, edited by R. B. Naftali ha-Kohen Fried. This edition of Sha’arei Orah is, according to the title page, the first offering (olah hadash) of halakhic novellae, pilpul, and savorah, she’elot u’teshuvot, and other related works from rabbis and their students. It is arranged by R. Naftali Katz Fried and his brother Mordecai David, sons of R. Jacob Meir, av bet din Kapish, only son of the well known admor R. Joshua Heschel ha-Kohen. Sha’arei Orah is a monthly, the only such journal in Czechoslovakia; its purpose is glorify Torah. It is reviewed by R. Moses Greenberger Rosh av bet din. The price of the journal is forty crowns a year and, overseas, two dollars annually. There is an introduction to the journal and then the text, which is comprised of ten simanim plus reviews. The first five entries are novellae, then Siftei Yeshenim (6-7), Tiferet Bahurim (8-9), Sha’arei Aggadah (10), and then Sha’arei ha-Bikorim (reviews), Sha’arei Yeshiva, and Sha’arei Teshuvah. On the last page are personal notices. R. Fried was murdered in the Holocaust.
