Description

Only edition of these two independent works on Jerusalem by R. Aaron Elijah Raphael Hayyim Moses. In both works the author conceals his name. The first has the full title Mikhtam Shalom Yisrael and Mikhtam Shalom Yerushalim. It is discourses with ethical reproof to distance Israel from the strife and hostility that caused the destruction of the Temples but rather to pursue peace and brotherly love for the redemption depends upon it.

The second title is Ki mi-Tsiyon Tetse Torah u-Devar HaShem mi-Yerushalim u-Devar HaShem mi-Yerushalayim. It is in praise of Eretz Israel, Jerusalem, and the Jewish people, strengthening faith, cherishing mitzvot, praise of the Torah, the value of affliction in this world, love of reproof, the shame of secular wisdom, Moses and the erev rav, King Solomon and his non-Jewish wives, love of converts and much more. The verso of the front wrapper has vignettes of kever Shemu’el ha-Novei and of Rachel Amenu. On the verso of the title page is a full page depiction of the luhot with a facing deer and lion on each side, a crown above and a banner that says Jerusalem.

R. Aaron Elijah Raphael Hayyim Moses Perera was a noted kabbalist. He was born in Salonika to R. Isaac ben Moses Perera. His father died when he was five years old and his righteous mother raised him with great personal sacrifice, which he relates in his Bigdei Yesha. R. Aaron suffered great deprivation in his life. In 1848 he went up, with his family, to Eretz Israel, residing afterwards in Jerusalem. R. Aaron studied under R. Joseph Engel.

דף כז,ג-כח,ב: שבח מעולה ותוכחת מגולה. ויכוח עם נפש האדם, מיוסד על תיבת אמת, מרבינו... משה סופר זצ"ל. פותח: אכתירך מלך מתים. מתוך ספרו שירת משה, פרעסבורג תרל"ה, עמ' כו-כח. המחבר העלים שמו: ואיני חותם שמי שלא יוודע מי האומרם אלא הם יבחנו בשכלם הטוב אם דברים ראויים (עמ' יב).

שמות המדפיסים על-פי שושנה הלוי, הספרים העבריים שנדפסו בירושלים, ירושלים תשכ"ג, עמ' 109, מס' 292. לדבריה נדפסו ב דף, ה-יו עמ' בשנת תרל"ט בדפוס ששון. עי' שם, עמ' 125, מס' 365, שדפוס זה נסגר בשנת תרל"ט.
