Detailed Description |
|
Popular work intended to enhance one’s religious perspective and attitude at the table by R. Jacob de Leone. The title page describes Tikkun ha-Shulhan as having been arranged by the sage R. Jacob de Leone of Russia for the public good so that everyone who fears the Lord should learn in it a little by the table in order to arouse his heart for the service of the Lord. He has entitled the book Tikkun ha-Shulhan and also ordered in it some traditional ethical notations to arouse the heart. There is an introduction from R. de Leone in which he begins by noting that the reader will inquire of himself who is this whose heart was full to write such a book and have it printed? R. de Leone responds in that his words are the words of the sages, Tannaim and Amoraim and their commentators. He recognizes his small value, notes the difficulties and troubles that beset people from the time of the destruction of the Temple, the obligation to review one’s deeds and heart. R. de Leone has gathered sayings to learn, without a vow, each and every month for a remembrance before his eyes. |
